Mental Health Articles of Interest from the Last Week
by Andrew Kemp SWLC MSW
In this installment of my blog, I am going to highlight some of the recent articles I've read that provide insight into mental health. Over the course of any given week I read 10 to 15 articles. I take information from most of them, some are good, some are not so good (pop psychology and some non peer reviewed articles). It is important to understand the source of the article, who has been published, the sources cited, and if it a reliable source for information. I have listed three links below that caught my interest over the course of the last week.
The article in the link below discusses the connection between anxiety and the pursuit of perfection. It outlines ways to pursue another form known as “The excellencist”. This concept wants to find the sweet spot between the perfect and the merely okay — because they can be excellent, without being perfect. Take a look for yourself and see what you think.

The following article looks into the claims by current state of Georgia Senatorial candidate Herscel Walker’s claim that his mental illness has been cured. The concept of curing mental health has been debated for centuries and this article looks at Walker’s claim and the science around it.

The following article looks into how mindful mediation can create a natural high, similar to an artificial high from other sources. The summary states, mindful meditation can produce a healthy altered state of consciousness in the treatment of those with addiction problems. These practices are also good for those who aren’t experiencing addictions as well.
